MARITIME HUMAN ERROR

Human Reliability Model

75% of accidents within the maritime industry are linked to Human Errors. HiLo has built the first-ever Maritime Human Reliability Model to improve safety in the maritime industry. HiLo’s Human Reliability Model is a quantitative prediction that addresses and analyses the role human beings play in maritime accidents. Human errors have previously resulted in high impact, sometimes fatal accidents. HiLo noticed the gap in the standardised system for Human Reliability Analysis and pioneered this unique statistical model.

HiLo’s advanced technology system made it possible to calculate and predict human errors based on near misses, previous accidents and fatalities. The model identifies environmental and operational factors which increase the likelihood of human error, giving shipping managers the best chance of making necessary changes before incidents occur. The system analyses full data sets from HiLo customers to get the deepest, most accurate view into maritime safety. Not only does this open the gate to next-generation analysis into human reliability but also gives new insights into the circumstances which drive human error.

INNOVATIVE MODEL

What is the HiLo Human Reliability Model?

Innovative Model

Human Reliability Model is the maritime industry’s first-ever quantitative method to measure human reliability. This model will predict incidents that can be caused by Human Errors and identify the environmental factors which drive human errors.

Industry-wide Datasets

HiLo’s client base of over 50 shipping companies allows the access of the deepest datasets. The system analyses full data sets from HiLo customers to get the deepest, most accurate view into maritime safety. Not only does this open the gate to next-generation analysis into human reliability but also gives new insights into the circumstances which drive human error.

HUMAN RELIABILITY MODEL

How HiLo’s Human Reliability Model Works:

1

Collection of Data

Shipping companies share full safety data sets as part of their subscription to HiLo. They also share data specific to human reliability. This data includes crew matrix, length of the tour, number of port visits, seafarer’s retention and many more elements.

2

Scrutinisation of Data

The collected data is processed through HiLo’s high-tech system and separated into sections for accurate statistical analysis. This allows the human error to be viewed in a quantitative method for the first time in the industry.

3

Valuable Risk Insights

After thorough analysis, the system identifies both- the impact of human error on maritime risks and the factors which drive these errors. The analysis report provides risk insights for shipping companies to aid their decision making for the improvement of human reliability in the industry
